World Championship 2025

Porto, Portugal

We began our training 10 days before the championship in Porto, Portugal. Conditions were great, giving us plenty of opportunities to adapt to the swell. Training had its ups and downs, but overall it was a strong preparation for the regatta.

After two rest days, we started the regatta feeling fresh and ready. The first races went well, and we had a lot of fun. During qualifying, we had one tough day where our performance didn’t match our potential. However, we bounced back with a strong final race, which secured our spot in the gold fleet—just two places from the bottom.

Heading into the finals, we had nothing to lose. Unfortunately, wind conditions were light, and over three days we only managed two races. Our performance in those races was solid, and we finished 26th overall—just one position shy of the top 25. While we were slightly frustrated to miss that milestone, we’re proud of our progress.

At the 2024 Worlds, we competed in the white and emerald fleets, so this year’s result—three Swiss boats in the gold fleet—marks the best-ever performance for Switzerland at a 29er Worlds.

We’re now looking forward to the Swiss Championship and the Youth Worlds qualification in Riva later this year.

European Championship 2025

Riva del Garda, Italy

This regatta was a lot of fun for me because we managed to maintain clear communication throughout the event. We began with some training before the racing, which was really valuable. We pushed ourselves hard, sometimes stepping out of our comfort zone, and that preparation paid off—during the races we felt confident and ready.

We started the regatta with some solid results, along with a few less-than-ideal ones. For me, though, it was a whole new kind of racing experience—I simply enjoyed being out there! While our results weren’t always consistent, I didn’t stress about it. I just wanted to go racing.

We had one rough day where we didn’t perform as well as we hoped, but we still managed to qualify for the gold fleet—just barely—which meant we improved our position overall. Our boat speed was strong throughout the event, which was a real highlight.

In the end, we finished 24th overall and 3rd in the Mixed category—a result I’m proud of. I’m happy with our performance and excited for the Worlds in Porto!

About me

Hey, I'm Theo Kowalewsky, and sailing is my absolute passion. For me, there's nothing better than feeling the wind in my face and gliding over the waves. It's not just a sport - it's the feeling of freedom and adventure that draws me out onto the water every time.

What I love about sailing is that you never stop learning. No matter how many times I've been on the water, there are always new challenges - whether it's improving your technique, being more clever with your tactics or understanding nature even better. I like to keep developing and pushing myself to get better.

Sailing has always been a great passion of mine. It is more than just sailing around two marks. It is a school for life where you learn strategic thinking, team coordination, balance on the boat and focus on constant improvement. We have invested a lot of time and energy and have had amazing moments and memories.

We have big goals for next year and we are ready to put in the effort. One step of this journey is to surround ourselves with the best sailors, coaches and resources. In the SST I will get the right tools and coaches in each discipline to improve and grow.

We are a new team with new energy. I am really looking forward to my new position as a crew, we have already tried it out and had a lot of fun. I really enjoy sailing and have the passion to achieve my goals, grow and move forward. The goals for next year are set and I am looking forward to working on my skills and improving to finally achieve my goals.

I am confident that I can bring my determination, focus and willingness to improve everyday.
